Are you Smarter Than the Pledge?

Mikaela Richardson

title of newspaper: Stories of American heroes
"title of article" Pledge of allegiance

This article is mainly about how the pledge of allegiance came to be.  Two men fascinated by America's history, Francis Bellamy and James Upham were the authors of the pledge but they did not have a copyright. On September 8, 1892, a Boston youth magazine "the youth's companion" published a 22 word recitation for school children to be used during planned activities the following month to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Columbus's discovery of America. The words were changed over and over again until finally in 1954 it was finished.

In our S.S. American history class, we are currently learning about the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. These two artifacts help us better understand our country's freedoms and rights. These freedoms are explained in some parts of the Constitution such as "and to the Republic" this means i pledge loyalty to my government " and Justice" each person is to be treated justly, fairly, and according to law/principle

As a citizen, i recite the pledge of allegiance. Everyday at school, I recite this pledge to to show my loyalty to America. the pledge is part of our daily life and has been used in almost every public school. learning about the pledge helped me better understand why we have it and what the words in it truly means. I also know about who created it and how it got started.

i thought that the table explaining what each word meant was helpful." today there may be a tendency among many Americans to recite "by rote" with little thought for the words themselves. As a result of this, i now understand what each words truly means, why it is used, and why they are so important to Americans.

  1. The main thing you forgot is details because each question had to be answered with at least 5 sentences. Also, your last paragraph is supposed to be more about something you think should be changed about the pledge or how we use it I am pretty sure. You have good information you just need a couple more sentences worth of it.
